Button takes first Grand Prix win

Jenson Button revealed he did not want his dream grand prix to end after roaring to an historic triumph at the Hungaroring.

Button finally broke his duck in his 113th Grand Prix despite starting down in 14th place on the grid due to an engine penalty.

Button told ITV: “Normally when you are in the lead I suppose it goes on for ever but I was loving it. I had a 40 second lead and I did not want it to end. It was the best feeling knowing you were on your way home to winning your first Grand Prix.”

The 26-year-old took his chance on a rain-sodden circuit when previous leader Fernando Alonso was forced to retire with a driveshaft failure.

Button added: “Wow, what a day. It has been amazing. The weather conditions made the race very difficult for everyone but coming through from 14th and winning, I couldn’t have done it any better.

“The strategy was fantastic and everyone on the team has done a great job this weekend. It is nice to see we have got a car that can win races.

“We made a great choice on the tyres and also on the last pit-stop. We have been a real thinking team. We have thought hard and we have won the race not just through speed but through strategy.

“The team deserve it because it has been so hard but we have finally got here. I have got to say thanks to everyone back in the UK because they have never lost faith in me.”
